You see bikes everywhere, right? But how many are there really, and where are people riding?
Those are the questions we seek to answer when we do our bi-annual bike counts, which just ended on September 30th. A huge thank you goes out to the dedicated volunteers we have helping with this work. It can be fun and challenging to sit at interesections around the valley and watch for people on bikes.
It's always interesting to find out what other things our volunteers are counting and we love to hear about it. Some things are funny like dogs on trailers or a cargo bike loaded with small bikes. Others are more serious and truly inform our advocacy direction. Seeing drivers run red lights and stop signs, using cell phones openly behind the wheel, are just a few things that we see that endanger the lives of people riding and walking.
Look for a report in the next 4-5 months regarding the latest bike counts, and look for another counting opportunity in 2023!
